On Monday (10 February), the Hawks and the Road Traffic Management Corporation also arrested seven traffic officers at the Thabazimbi Local Municipality’s driving test centre for alleged fraud.
This follows last Friday’s arrest of eleven officials of the Lephalale driving test centre for allegedly “selling” driver’s licences.
The FF Plus is of the opinion that this crime extends beyond these two municipalities and that the investigation should be expanded to include all the municipalities in Limpopo.
The officials’ reckless conduct means that drivers who are neither properly trained nor evaluated are let loose on our roads. This significantly increases the risk of dangerous situations and accidents.
The FF Plus will insist in the municipal council that more stringent measures be put in place at the Thabazimbi driving test centre so that learner’s and driver’s licences cannot be obtained illegally.
Such measures should include frequent audits of learner’s and driver’s licences.
The party also calls on the public not to get involved in these corrupt practices, but to immediately report it to the relevant authorities.
