Taps in Emalahleni are running dry due to ANC’s incompetence

The blame for the water problems currently experienced in the Emalahleni Local Municipality (Kriel, Ogies, Phola, Emalahleni / Witbank) rests squarely on the shoulders of the ANC-controlled council.

The Municipality is currently reaping the bitter fruits of years of poor planning around the maintenance of the water network, a lack of expert personnel and the fact that many residents are defaulting on their utility account payments.

The Municipality's failure to collect the outstanding debt means that it has a serious income deficit, which makes it even harder to provide proper services.

There seems to be no experts in the field of water management in Emalahleni and the political will to act in the best interests of residents is also lacking.

The Auditor-General (AG) found that most of the municipal officials are not competent to do the jobs for which they were appointed.

The FF Plus is of the view that merit should be the only criterion for making appointments, regardless of skin colour, and that the ANC's policy of cadre deployment must be stopped.

As a result of the ANC's incompetence and mismanagement, the residents of certain areas in Emalahleni / Witbank are severely inconvenienced by the lack of water supply, which is caused by burst asbestos pipes, faulty water valves and the pumps used to pump water to the reservoirs and the rest of the water network being broken.

The Municipality has stationed water tanks in certain areas to supply water to the residents in the vicinity. However, there is a lack of proper management and no timetables outlining when the water trucks will supply water were distributed to the people.

The only long-term solution for the Emalahleni Municipality's water crisis as well as the general service delivery problems is for the Municipality's residents to stand up and stand together with the FF Plus in the upcoming local government elections to take a stand against the ANC's destruction of the Municipality. The decline must be brought to an end.
