Supra the cause of super poor medical services delivery

The crisis in health care services delivery brought on by striking medical officers of health in North West saw two women being refused crucial operations because the hospital in Delareyville was closed.

One of the women had to have an emergency caesarean section and the other had to receive treatment after having had a miscarriage, but because health services were not available due to striking staff, they had to be taken to a nearby town.

Another two women were also refused treatment in Lichtenburg and were rushed to the hospital in Vryburg.

They were transported to the hospitals in police vehicles as there are anomalies with the government and Buthelizi ambulance services that consequently do not offer services to residents at present.

Health care in North West is currently paralysed by the Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, who is effectively holding the province hostage in order to stay on in his position for as long as possible.

The effect of this is that North West’s status has worsened with the possibility that the riots of the past two days in Mafikeng may spread to the rest of the province and the very real possibility that Supra’s super poor medical services will not be able to treat those hurt in the violent protests.

As was the case with former President Jacob Zuma, Mahumapelo must do the right thing and step down as premier of North West.

He is not only a political disaster for the ANC, but also for the people in the province as their lives are in danger because the ruling party is unable to manage the Mahumapelo disaster.
