The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has confirmed that steps have been taken to relieve the fate of livestock at the Mara Research Station in Limpopo that had been kept in camps without food or water for days on end.
The livestock have since been moved to grazing camps where the water supply is adequate.
These steps were taken after the FF Plus lodged a complaint with the SPCA after the Limpopo Legislature's Committee on Agriculture paid an oversight visit to the Mara Research Station.
During the oversight visit, livestock were found in camps where they had no food or water.
The SPCA has undertaken to visit the institution on a regular basis so as to ensure that the animals are no longer mistreated.
It comes as a shock that animals are kept under such circumstances at a place that is supposed to set an example for emerging farmers in the surrounding regions.
The FF Plus will ensure that strict action is taken against individuals who are responsible for the mismanagement of the Research Station and the abuse of the animals.
