After years of pressure from the FF Plus, the Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality (Nylstroom, Naboomspruit, Vaalwater) will finally repair the sewage pump stations in this municipal area.
The party has been fighting to bring the ongoing sewage pollution in the Municipality to an end since 2019.
The party previously also lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) against the Municipality for its violation of human and environmental rights through the continual pollution of the Nylsvlei biosphere.
In November 2020, the HRC held a public hearing to address the complaint and the Municipality was put on terms.
The sewage pump stations identified for repairs are the R101/N1 and Rooipad 1 pump stations in Naboomspruit.
Both these pump stations are vital for pumping sewage from Naboomspruit and surrounds to the sewage treatment plant.
Generators will also be installed at water and sewage pump stations in the near future.
Limpopo is a water-scarce province, so, the unbridled pollution of water resources should not be tolerated.
The FF Plus will continue to apply pressure to ensure that Limpopo residents’ constitutional right to live and work in a clean and safe environment is honoured.
