It is clear that there are factions within the ANC that are willing to sabotage service delivery in the Mangaung Metro in order to further their own political agendas.
According to reliable sources in the Metro, there are rumours that officials are being incited to undermine service delivery in support of the ousted executive Mayor Olly Mlamleli. So, there is a deliberate attempt to make it appear as if service delivery is deteriorating due to Mlamleli's removal.
The truth, however, is that service delivery, municipal management and the Metro's financial position have all deteriorated under Mlamleli's leadership since 2016.
Mlamleli must take responsible action now – she should condemn such conduct and discourage her supporters from disrupting service delivery.
If the ANC re-elects Mlamleli as executive Mayor, it will be clear that the ruling party does not care for the people's interests, but is power hungry and short sighted instead. The people will not forget the party’s careless actions and will punish the ANC at the polls next year.
The ANC now has the opportunity to elect a new mayor after Mlamleli was ousted by the FF Plus's motion of no confidence. Simply re-electing her would be unacceptable. She failed to do her job properly and the Metro's poor level of service delivery and credit rating serve as proof thereof.
