Although the Bela-Bela Local Municipality (Warmbad and Pienaarsrivier) received an unqualified audit opinion from the Auditor-General (AG) for the 2024/25 financial year, it certainly does not reflect the level of basic service delivery residents receive.
This outcome confirms that the financial statements were correctly compiled, but it does not mean the Municipality has a clean audit or that service delivery at grass-roots level is what it should be.
The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) stresses that basic services – such as water supply, sewerage treatment, road repairs, the prevention of power outages, and the protection of infrastructure against theft and vandalism – should be treated with the same discipline and seriousness as financial reporting.
The unqualified audit is a step in the right direction, but not the final destination.
The Freedom Front Plus will keep holding the Municipality accountable to ensure that better financial management translates into tangible and sustainable service delivery to the community.
