The Public Service Commission (PSC) has confirmed that it will, on request of the FF Plus, launch an investigation into the qualifications of senior managers in Free State government departments.
In terms of Section 196 of the Constitution, the PSC is mandated to investigate and evaluate all government personnel.
The FF Plus sent its request to the Commission after the ANC in the Provincial Legislature voted against a motion to conduct a skills audit in the Free State.
In August 2022, the acting Minister of Public Service and Administration, Mr Thulas Nxesi, confirmed in reply to a parliamentary question that 94 senior managers in the Free State do not possess the necessary qualifications.
It came as no surprise when the Free State Premier, Ms Sisi Ntombela, and her party voted against the motion.
Ntombela and her Executive Committee's silence on the matter during the session demonstrates that the ANC would rather protect cadres than act in the best interest of the Free State.
The FF Plus welcomes the PSC's confirmation that the qualifications of all senior managers in both the provincial and national government will be investigated.
Properly qualified senior managers with relevant qualifications are vital to ensure that government departments are run in a way that benefits the community, and not as deployment positions for incompetent cadres.
The Free State deserves a government that priorities quality service delivery and appointing competent officials. The people of the Free State deserve better than the ANC.
