The FF Plus today asked the Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lt Gen. Elias Mawela, to urgently implement precautionary security measures at police stations to prevent attacks on police stations and officers.
Last night, two police members were shot and killed in a suspected ambush in Boksburg.
The two officers responded to a call about a death and were then approached by three men with firearms. The men demanded their firearms and bulletproof vests and then shot them in cold blood.
In a second incident, a female police officer was attacked, but was able to avert the attack and kill one of the perpetrators.
In yet another incident, the police's intelligence unit recently discovered information about planned attacks on the Akasia and Soshanguve police stations.
The police wasted no time in acting on the information and the planned attacks were averted.
On 4 October, three alleged robbers walked into the Devon police station, took police officers' firearms off them and ran away. Three guns and seven pistols were stolen.
The FF Plus has repeatedly warned Commissioner Mawela to ensure that police officers are properly equipped and that police stations are not understaffed.
The party will continue to remind the Commissioner that the lives of police members are valuable, and that no police weapon may end up in the hands of criminals.
