The Tshwane Metro Council’s Oversight Committee on Housing and Human Settlements was unable to proceed with its work last week, as eight members of the ruling coalition representing the ANC, ActionSA and EFF failed to attend an important meeting.
Seeing as there was no quorum, four reports that were tabled could not be discussed and no relevant decisions could be made.
One of these was the Department’s medium-term performance report, which details recurring shortcomings identified by the Auditor-General (AG).
The remaining reports deal with wasteful expenditure amounting to more than R50 million as well as failed projects in Phomolong, Olievenhoutbosch and Soshanguve.
The conduct of the ruling coalition demonstrates contempt for responsible oversight of the Department’s functioning, which is already under scrutiny due to negative audit findings.
On 4 November 2026, Tshwane Metro residents have the opportunity to vote for the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) to establish an administration in Tshwane that is committed to accountability and transparency.
