Refuse removal in the Emfuleni Local Municipality (Evaton, Sebokeng, Vaal Oewer, Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging) had to be drastically cut back after a large number of the Municipality's vehicles were seized in December and service providers were not paid.
The attachment order followed Emfuleni's failure to pay its outstanding Eskom account.
If a repayment agreement with the national power utility is not reached soon, the vehicles and other movable assets will be sold at an auction on Friday.
Emfuleni had to cut back on its refuse removal services due to a lack of vehicles in the past as well.
It leads to rodent infestations and people illegally dumping their garbage next to the road.
The FF Plus warned the acting municipal manager, April Ntuli, that the Municipality will be forced to close its doors if a workable agreement with Eskom is not reached soon.
Other service providers will follow in Eskom's footsteps if the non-payment problem persists.
Emfuleni is a shining example of how the ANC has failed the people of Gauteng.
Residents must let their voices be heard with the announcement of the annual draft budget and object to exorbitant tariff hikes for services that are not rendered.
Emfuleni deserves better than the ANC.
