“If the minister of Police, Mr. Nathi Nhleko, offers Lt-Gen. Anwa Dramat R20 million to give up his position as head of the Hawks, it will be nothing other than corruption. It is abuse of taxpayer’s money to achieve a goal (to remove Dramat) which the High Court and the Constitutional Court has already found to be illegal. If Dramat accepts the offer, he will also be guilty of corruption. If such an offer is implemented the Freedom Front Plus will approach the Public Protector to investigate it,” Dr. Pieter Groenewald, the FF Plus’ chief spokesperson on Police says.
“Taxpayer’s money is too easily being used to give people golden handshakes to get rid of them. If an official freely decides to retire, the normal rules of the relevant pension fund should apply and taxpayer’s money should not be used as a carrot,” Groenewald said.
