Power restored to Krugerpark Primary School after VF Plus intervenes

Power was restored to the Krugerpark Primary School in Potgietersrus following a provincial-level intervention by the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus).

The Mogalakwena Local Municipality cut the school’s electricity supply yesterday (21 May) reportedly due to “historical debt.”

According to the school, its utility bills are all paid up, but its property rates, for which the provincial Department of Public Works is responsible, are overdue.

The school reached out to the local Freedom Front Plus councillor, Elita Wiid, for assistance as learners are currently busy writing a test series and a sports event is also taking place at the school today.

The school has generators at its disposal, but they are not powerful enough for the three-phase borehole pump needed to fill the water tanks supplying water to the ablution facilities at the school.

The Freedom Front Plus immediately contacted Limpopo’s MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Mr Ernest Rachoene. Power supply to the school has since been restored.

The Department’s spokesperson, Mr Witness Tiva, will look into the matter to determine whether there are any payments due to the Mogalakwena Municipality, and has indicated that the Department will address the matter accordingly.
