Parliamentary debate: The impact of Brexit on the South African economy – Brexit: Government must first get its own house in order to grow economy

The FF Plus welcomes the fact that a trade deal was concluded between South Africa and Britain given the uncertainty about Brexit. Still, South Africa is responsible for its own economic prosperity.

The FF Plus is concerned about South Africa's economic prospects, regardless of the Brexit outcome.

There are too many government policies, that are in various phases of implementation, that will have a great impact on the country's economy and future trade agreements.

Some of these are the Consumer Debt Relief Bill, the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill, expropriation without compensation, nationalising the Reserve Bank, prescribed assets, Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) and Affirmative Action (AA).

The country's economy is on the verge of ruin as business confidence has plunged to the lowest level in 20 years.

The time has come for the South African government to do everything in its power to grow the country's economy and set its infeasible ideological policies aside.

The FF Plus wants to see that South Africa creates, in the first place, an economy that benefits its citizens rather than infeasible ideologies. Ideologies can follow after the economy has grown and jobs have been created.

The government must realise that it is standing at a crossroads: it is either economic progress or sticking to ANC ideologies that will bring about poverty for everyone.
