The long-awaited organisational review of the Ekurhuleni Metro will be handled by the Metro Council in February following pressure from the FF Plus.
The organisational review of the Metro’s administration, to ensure effective service delivery to residents, is long overdue.
Unfortunately, the ANC/EFF government in the Metro has been dragging its feet in this regard.
The organisational review document, which has since been provided to political parties, contains many flaws that need to be addressed.
In the FF Plus’s view, the current plan seems to be to assign more powers to the administration of the Office of the City Manager, rather than implementing reforms to make service delivery more effective.
It would establish a parallel government from the City Manager’s Office.
And that is the reason why it has taken so long to disclose the organisational review document to the opposition.
The ANC/EFF government knows all too well that the FF Plus will not be in favour of the proposals and will oppose them vehemently.
In addition, personnel numbers are not reduced by much
– from 21 526 to 21 522 – so, a golden opportunity to save the Metro money is missed.
Clearly, the ANC/EFF government does not want to seize this opportunity to make the Metro financially more sustainable and improve service delivery
The FF Plus will make submissions in an effort to improve the organisational review plan
A more efficient and cost-effective Ekurhuleni Metro and administration is non-negotiable in the FF Plus’s view.
