The murder of Joubert Conradie, the farmer from Klapmuts near Stellenbosch, was the catalyst for yesterday’s countrywide Black Monday protest action; that and nothing else, says Dr Corné Mulder, chief whip of the FF Plus.
In a member’s declaration in parliament today, Dr Mulder commended the people of all races in South Africa who participated in the Black Monday campaign.
“It all started last week Tuesday when the lives of the Conradie family from Klapmuts were drastically and irrevocably changed.
“Three thieves entered the house of the innocent family, they shot and killed Joubert Conradie for no reason and then fled into the night like cowards. I attended the funeral that was held on Saturday and spoke to the family.
“That event was the catalyst for the numerous protest marches held across South Africa yesterday, which thousands of people attended.
“Two days ago, the Minister of Police (Fikile Mbalula) sent out a tweet in which he warned the public against spreading fake news. Just yesterday, however, he spread fake news himself by retweeting a message that stated that he won’t wear black on Monday because the protest is a race-based campaign predicated on a lie.
“Minister, please note that this is no lie for the Conradie family. This is a reality. Their father was senselessly murdered a week ago. I would, therefore, like to commend the people of all races who participated in the protests,” says Dr Mulder.
