During a recent regional forum meeting of the Tshwane Metro’s Region 3, the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) proposed that the Metro should deploy more work teams to the area to resolve service delivery problems.
The Metro’s Region 3 consists of 26 wards and include, among others, neighbourhoods such as Atteridgeville, Pretoria CBD, Arcadia, Groenkloof, Brooklyn, Monument Park, parts of Waterkloof and Pretoria-Moot.
The neighbourhoods of Region 3 are plagued by various service delivery problems, like broken street lights, potholes, water leakages and power problems.
The regional forum, consisting of councillors and officials, proposed that a plan of action be implemented to resolve service delivery problems faster. In addition, oversight needs to be exercised on a regular basis to ensure that the work is done.
The root of the problem remains budgetary constraints resulting in too few work teams to effectively address service delivery problems.
At present, there are six teams tasked with road maintenance, two teams to repair or replace overhead lines, two teams for resolving general power problems, one team responsible for restoring power when supply has been interrupted and two mobile cranes.
The Freedom Front Plus is of the opinion that the Metro needs to adjust its budget for Region 3 in order to deploy more work teams in the area, particularly in light of the vastness of the area and the revenue the Metro generates from it.
