After seven long years, the Mogale City Local Municipality (Krugersdorp, Magaliesburg, Muldersdrift) will finally open the library in Kagiso Extension 6 on 16 March.
The library had already been completed by 2019, but could not open its doors due to administrative and infrastructure problems.
During an oversight visit by the Sport and Culture Committee, the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomed the opening, but also expressed its concern about the long delay in opening an important community facility, despite the great need for study and learning resources in the area.
The opening of the library is a positive step in community development and will play an important role in:
• providing access to books, study resources and information;
• ensuring internet and computer access for students and residents;
• offering a safe study and learning environment for young people; and
• supporting reading, education and skills development through programmes.
The Freedom Front Plus will conduct regular oversight visits to ensure that the facility is sustainably managed and properly maintained so that it does not fall into disrepair or needlessly close its doors for long periods of time.
Mogale City communities deserve access to functioning libraries that make a positive contribution to youth development.
