Mayor Lucky Godfrey Sele’s reshuffling of the Mayoral Committee in the Mogale City Local Municipality (Krugersdorp, Magaliesburg and Muldersdrift) will not resolve the ongoing water crisis plaguing the Municipality.
Large parts of Mogale have been without water since the weekend after the town’s reservoirs dropped to dangerously low levels, while supply has only been restored to some areas.
The Municipality also failed to deploy enough water tankers to meet residents’ needs.
Instead of confronting the most pressing challenges and coming up with a viable solution, Sele decided to move Peter Modise, the Mayoral Committee Member for Infrastructure Development Services, to another portfolio and replace him with Merriam Mogoje.
Mogoje made the headlines last year after she encouraged informal settlement residents of the Hekpoort and Hartebeesfontein rural areas in Gauteng to occupy land belonging to Mogale City.
At the time, while serving as the Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, she accused white landowners of driving black people off their land.
The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) wishes to make it abundantly clear that Mogale’s water supply problems can only be resolved by a competent Mayoral Committee Member, not one employing race-driven rhetoric.
The party will closely monitor Mogoje’s performance and hold her accountable if the water crisis does not improve soon.
Residents deserve access to clean drinking water and should vote for the Freedom Front Plus on 4 November 2026 to elect an administration serious about basic service delivery.
