Mkhize and Digital Vibes once again demonstrate ANC government’s moral bankruptcy when it comes to corruption in its own ranks; all Department of Health’s Covid-19 contracts must be investigated

The more the government talks about eradicating corruption, the more examples emerge of the fact that the ANC government is only willing to take decisive action against corrupt elements in government once it has no other choice but to do so.

A case in point is Minister Zweli Mkhize. While everyone is holding their breath, like so many times in the past, waiting to see if action will be taken against a senior official who is implicated in serious irregularities, it seems that President Cyril Ramaphosa has decided to pass the ball to the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) for now or is Mkhize supposed to step down out of own accord?

Allegations about irregularities with the Department of Health's procurement of goods and services in terms of the Covid-19 emergency regulations have been circulating for quite some time now. More than a year ago already, in May 2020, the FF Plus asked the Minister in writing about the allocation of contracts as well as about the names of the companies where the normal procurement procedures had been deviated from. That was when the name Digital Vibes first came up.

The FF Plus demands that the SIU must investigate all the Department of Health's Covid-19-related contracts and that the investigations must be conducted speedily and thoroughly. South Africans are increasingly getting the impression that high-profile investigations are drawn out endlessly, while justice seems to run its course much faster when it comes to ordinary citizens.
