MK members refuse to grant officials entry into Emfuleni’s municipal offices

Yesterday, a group of Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) members refused to grant officials of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (Evaton, Sebokeng, Vaal Oewer, Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging) entry into their offices to do their work.

As a result, no accounts were paid and no queries could be addressed. The Municipality has already been placed under partial administration due to its poor financial management.

The guards of the security company, which the Municipality pays R6 million every month, did not even try to stop the MK members or let the municipal workers through.

The police arrived hours later and by that time, most of the municipal workers had returned home.

The FF Plus has sent a letter to the administrator, Gilberto Martins, requesting an investigation into the matter.

The party also demands that the security company's contract must be reconsidered.

The Municipality's functioning must not be hampered by unkept promises that were allegedly made to MK members more than a year ago before the municipal elections.

The former Mayor, Gift Morane, said in his 2021 opening address that the Municipality will create 100 jobs for general workers and encouraged MK members to apply.

More than 14 000 applications were received, but no-one could be appointed seeing as the jobs were not budgeted for in the Municipality's unfunded budget.

Once again, Emfuleni residents are the victims of the opportunistic promises the ANC made while canvassing.

Emfuleni deserves better than the ANC.
