Earlier today in Parliament, the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, accepted an invitation by the FF Plus to visit the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria to learn more about the Afrikaner’s culture heritage.
The Monument plays a significant symbolic role in the Afrikaner community, and the FF Plus is convinced that the Minister will benefit from the visit.
Sport, Arts and Culture is a special portfolio and quite possibly the most important government department seeing as there is no chance of achieving success in any other department when there is division among the people of South Africa.
Everyone knows how important sport is for nation building, but the recipe that is currently being followed is wrong. Sport cannot accomplish it all on its own. Arts and culture are both irreplaceable ingredients in the nation building recipe.
Moreover, South Africa’s respective communities should not leave nation building up to government.
The country is exceptionally diverse with many cultural communities, which should all cooperate and reach out to one another to bring about unity. For nation building to be successful, people should get to know and respect each other’s cultures.
By being open and honest about his background and where he comes from, the Minister taught everyone a lesson on how to rise above their circumstances and reach the top.
It demonstrates that anyone can make a positive difference to the circumstances of those around them.
The FF Plus wishes Minister McKenzie all the best for the important task ahead of him, and the party will do its part to cooperate and promote true nation building.
