The FF Plus has constantly been putting pressure on the Mbombela Local Municipality (Nelspruit, White River, Barberton, Hazyview, Kaapschehoop) over the past two years and succeeded in persuading the Municipality to conduct water meter audits.
The objective is to find solutions to the ongoing financial revenue losses suffered by Mbombela due to water losses.
The latter is caused by failing infrastructure, water theft and tampering with water meters.
The Municipality indicated, in its written reply to questions submitted by the FF Plus, that after more than two years, only the more affluent neighbourhoods of Hazyview, White River and Barberton have been audited
A total of 5 533 meters were audited in these neighbourhoods, with only 4 001 working as they should. That points to a shortage of 1 532 meters with faulty readings. And of these meters, 289 did not work at all.
The FF Plus will give the Mayor, Ms Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko, a written ultimatum specifying a date by which all water meter audits in all neighbourhoods must be complete
The people of Mbombela deserve better than the ANC. The Municipality will only be able to function properly once the ANC is ousted from power.
