The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) requested the Free State MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Mr Saki Mokoena, to urgently intervene in the Masilonyana Local Municipality’s serious cash flow problems.
This Municipality, which serves Brandfort, Theunissen and Winburg, among other areas, admitted during a portfolio committee meeting in Parliament that it receives R157 million annually in state subsidies, while spending approximately R168 million per year on salaries, benefits and bonuses.
So, nearly all the funds intended for basic service delivery is spent on salaries.
This explains why service providers are not being paid, residents receive poor service delivery and the Municipality is reportedly unable to afford fuel for service vehicles.
The ANC has turned Masilonyana into a salary and cadre deployment machine, leaving service delivery to collapse.
Residents should never again allow tax money to be used for political self-enrichment instead of service delivery.
This is our time to turn Masilonyana around.
Vote for the Freedom Front Plus on 4 November to see actual improvement.
