The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes the long-overdue repair work on Marignane Avenue in Bonaero Park, Kempton Park. This road is notorious for its dangerous potholes and should have been repaired a long time ago.
This and several other roads’ terrible condition was brought to the attention of the Ekurhuleni Metro on 15 May. Marignane Avenue was riddled with potholes and motorists were forced to drive on the pavement in an effort to avoid them.
Although R449 million was earmarked for road maintenance in the 2024/25 budget, it is still not enough. The Metro’s road crisis cannot be resolved little by little, so, drastic changes need to be made to its next budget.
The Freedom Front Plus is committed to ensuring that residents are not forced to fix potholes while Ekurhuleni’s leadership diverts funds elsewhere without being held accountable.
This victory belongs to the residents who made their voices heard and to everyone who refuses to accept crumbling roads as the norm.
The party will keep fighting for what is right until all Ekurhuleni’s roads are safe and accessible.
