The FF Plus welcomes the police action against cash-in-transit robbers in Louis Trichardt (Makhado) last Friday after a wave of cash-in-transit heists had swept through areas in the Vhembe District.
It shows that there are still many police members who will do everything in their power to fight crime, and who are even willing to put their lives on the line to maintain law and order in the country.
Reportedly, 18 suspected robbers were killed in a shoot-out with the police.
During the crime scene investigation following the shoot-out, another body was found in the building, raising the death toll to 19.
According to the latest crime statistics, 11 cash-in-transit heists occurred in the province between April and June this year.
In June this year, the Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lt Gen. Thembi Hadebe, admitted that the number of cash-in-transit heists had increased sharply, especially in the Vhembe District, and announced that a cash-in-transit plan is being implemented in Limpopo.
It appears that the plan has been successfully implemented and, hopefully, this police action will deter other cash-in-transit robbers.
A member of The Hawks’ tactical unit, Lt Col. Joe Coetzer, was wounded in Friday’s shoot-out and is currently recovering in hospital. The party wishes him a speedy recovery.
