Limpopo: Freedom Front Plus approaches Premier for help after two bridges wash away near Leeupoort holiday town

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) approached the Premier of Limpopo, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, with a request to urgently intervene at the Thabazimbi Local Municipality’s (Northam, Rooiberg, Leeupoort) holiday town, Leeupoort, after two bridges were washed away, leaving residents stranded.

The Premier wasted no time in taking action, and the Department of Public Works will soon start doing repairs and implementing temporary solutions.

Due to the recent heavy rains in the province, the Crocodile River flooded its banks and roads in the area had to be temporarily closed since last week to ensure motorists’ safety.

On top of that, the severe floods damaged powerlines and waterpipes, so, Leeupoort residents also do not have water or power.

Residents have informed the party that representatives of the Premier visited them over the weekend to determine what their needs are and to offer immediate assistance.

Leeupoort holiday town has around 800 residents, most of them pensioners.

The Freedom Front Plus’s local councillor in Thabazimbi, Frik Erasmus, continually remains in contact with the Leeupoort community. He is currently busy making arrangements to obtain stone and gravel to help repair the damaged roads.

The party is grateful that Ramathuba responded swiftly to the party’s request and kept her word.
