As a former coalition partner in the Tshwane Metro government, the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes the Labour Court’s ruling that the South African Local Government Bargaining Council (SALGBC) acted unfairly by rejecting the Metro’s applications for exemption from the 2021 wage increase.
The ruling affirms the Freedom Front Plus’s responsible and principled actions in the previous administration. The party also defended the case to the end along with some of its coalition partners.
While other coalition partners, such as ActionSA and the ACDP, withdrew their support and ultimately formed a new coalition with the ANC and EFF, the Freedom Front Plus remained steadfast in its commitment to responsible financial management and service delivery.
The Labour Court found that the Bargaining Council did not give the Metro a fair opportunity to present its case, and that the financial information was misinterpreted.
The Court’s ruling confirms that the Freedom Front Plus’s approach was correct and in the best interest of Tshwane’s residents.
ActionSA, which claimed to have saved the Metro billions, has now been exposed as a factor that hindered rather than helped sound decision-making.
The Freedom Front Plus demonstrated that the relevant financial decisions would directly impact community safety and service delivery, and took appropriate action put the residents of Tshwane first.
