The FF Plus welcomes the talks between South Africa’s health minister, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, and his counterparts from SADC about the ebola crisis and how to prevent it spreading to these countries, Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on health says.
Adv. Alberts says it is heartening to see that South Africa is taking pro-active steps in this regard, but seen in the light of the country’s porous borders, there is no other choice to institute the strictest measures possible to protect South Africa’s people.
“Problems with South Africa’s health services are well-known and the country has enough problems regarding health issues as it stands at present.
“It would therefore lead to an extensive crisis should the virus spill over into South Africa. If it is considered how widely and quickly it spread in Western Africa where more than 900 people have already died, it would be irresponsible to be unprepared for the situation,” Adv. Alberts says.
