During today's budget vote debate on the Premier's Office, the FF Plus brought it to the attention of the Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, that there is a valid perception among minorities that the ANC is using Covid-19 as a weapon to achieve its ideological objectives.
Adv Anton Alberts, FF Plus chairperson and MPL, spoke on behalf of the FF Plus and said that inclusive economic growth is undermined because the national and provincial governments' financial aid to small business enterprises is based on race. In addition, it will mostly be black employees who lose their jobs if white enterprises are allowed to close down.
In response, Makhura used a great deal of his reply to discuss the FF Plus's views regarding discrimination against minorities.
Makhura undertook to ensure that all the steps taken by the Gauteng government during the Covid-19 pandemic will benefit everyone without regard for race, gender, religion or any other distinction.
The FF Plus considers this a positive sentiment, but will hold the Premier to his word. It is especially important that financial aid to smaller business enterprises must be offered without regard for race.
The FF Plus will continue to participate in Gauteng government discussions so as to ensure accountability.
