The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) has successfully resolved the parking problem in front of the Overberg Agri building, on the corner of Lang and Main Streets in Moorreesburg, for the business and the community’s benefit.
The management of Overberg Agri approached the Freedom Front Plus after their complaints to the Swartland Local Municipality fell on deaf ears.
The party formally brought the matter to the attention of the Director of Civil Engineering, Mr Louis Zikmann, highlighting the following concerns:
• The current parking design is impractical for trucks.
• This poses a serious risk to pedestrian safety.
• Repeated damage to Overberg Agri’s building caused by trucks illegally parking on sidewalks.
• Several complaints were lodged with the Municipality over an extended period of time, but to no avail.
• Motorists’ ongoing frustration with inadequate parking.
In 14 July, the Director assured the Freedom Front Plus that the relevant signs will be erected at the parking area to prohibit trucks from parking there.
This measure will improve pedestrian safety, protect property and restore order to this busy commercial zone.
While the Freedom Front Plus welcomes this positive outcome, it remains concerning that the Municipality failed to respond to earlier complaints from the public or businesses. Complaints were merely referred from one municipal department to the next, but no solutions were offered.
The Municipality clearly has a systemic problem in addressing and resolving complaints.
The Freedom Front Plus reaffirms its commitment to fighting for the rights of every Swartland Municipality resident and ensuring accountability.
