In response to his State of the Province Adress (SOPA) last Thursday, the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) in the North West called on Premier Lazarus Mokgotsito to demonstrate professional leadership and to stop the decay in the province.
Mokgotsi’s SOPA offered no sustainable solutions to North West’s widespread challenges.
Existing infrastructure is decaying hand over fist and there is no sign of proper maintenance.
Towns are ruined by maladministration and service delivery is collapsing. Scarce natural resources, such as water sources, are destroyed due to poor, or an utter lack of, environmental management.
Nature reserves are failing as there is no professional management to speak of. No business or environmental management planning is done.
In addition, the poor state of the province means that there is an outflow of scarce skills. More and more professionals and businesspeople are relocating to elsewhere in the country due to the decay and consequent negative economic environment.
The Freedom Front Plus emphasised that strong, professional leadership is the only way to improve the situation in the North West.
This is the Premier’s opportunity to implement sustainable solutions, and restore discipline and ethics in the North West provincial government.
The question remains, though, does he have the political will to be better and put the province and its people first?
