The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) demands that the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality take decisive action to address the ongoing illegal dumping of garden waste, household rubbish and even building rubble in open areas in Aberdeen.
It has escalated into severe environmental pollution and poses a health risk.
Moreover, it not only affects Aberdeen residents, but also the nearby communities of Loutesville and Tembelizizwe.
Despite constant complaints and clear evidence of ongoing violations, the Municipality fails to take appropriate action. The absence of law enforcement and lack of accountability undermine public trust in local governance, setting a dangerous precedent of impunity.
The Freedom Front Plus implores the Municipal Manager, Dr Eddie Rankwane, to immediately implement the following steps:
• Conduct a thorough investigation to determine the extent of the dumping, and its impact on water infrastructure and ecological systems.
• Immediately secure and rehabilitate the affected sites.
• Enforce existing municipal by-laws and criminally prosecute offenders.
• Develop sustainable, community-driven waste management solutions in collaboration with local leaders.
The Freedom Front Plus will not stand idly by and watch while residents’ health and Aberdeen’s natural environment are destroyed.
The party will keep pressuring the Municipality and escalate the matter to higher authorities, if need be.
The Freedom Front Plus wants to remind the Municipality that it is every resident’s fundamental right to live and work in a healthy, safe and properly governed environment.
