Free State roads: FF Plus will hold Department to its promises in Eastern Free State

During the current harvesting season, grain producers in the Thabo Mofutsanyana District in the Eastern Free State have had to make use of road infrastructure in terrible condition while it is hardly possible to transport products on such dangerous roads.

The FF Plus met with the district officials of the provincial Department of Roads and Transport to urgently address the problem.

Officials have undertaken to provide material to temporarily fill in potholes as well as pipes and scrapers from their limited resources. The following roads will be prioritised:

• R34 (between Vrede and Memel)
• R103 (between Warden and Villiers)
• R26 (between Fouriesburg and Ficksburg)

During the meeting, it was confirmed that a new road will be built between Frankfort and Reitz. At present, local farmers and residents are repairing the roads at their own expense.

The FF Plus has great appreciation for the farming community that is serving its surrounding communities and finding solutions, despite these terrible circumstances.

It is, however, not sustainable for the community to fix and maintain the roads. It remains the responsibility of the government to use tax money optimally for the province's road infrastructure.

The FF Plus will hold the Department to its promises. South Africa and its people deserve better than the ANC.
