The FF Plus will officially request the chairperson of the parliamentary Portfolio Committee for Health, Dr Dhlomo, to launch a campaign early next year to visit every provincial hospital and clinic across South Africa to inspect the condition of the institutions first hand.
During last Wednesday's committee meeting, when the Department of Health appeared before the Committee, the FF Plus pointed out that these visits must take place.
The FF Plus also used the opportunity to criticise the Department and the ministry about corruption and maladministration and made it very clear that any officials and political leaders who are guilty of these offences must be sent to jail because they are gambling with people's lives seeing as their actions prevent hospitals and clinics from providing the medical services they ought to.
The FF Plus will propose that one province must be visited per month. The visits must be finalised before October 2021. After that the Committee must compile a comprehensive report on its observations and come to an official decision about how these issues will be handled and resolved in the future.
These visits must take place unannounced. The current state of affairs in hospitals and clinics may no longer be tolerated and decisive action is needed from the Committee's side to intervene in this matter.
This past Friday, the FF Plus also gave the MEC for Health in the Free State, Montseng Tsiu, 21 days to launch an investigation into the death of a patient in one of the provincial hospitals.
