FF Plus will not give in to intimidation by illegal strikers in Tshwane

The FF Plus, as a coalition partner in the Tshwane Metro Council, will not allow striking municipal workers to intimidate fellow workers who do not want to participate in the illegal strike action.

Many of these workers fear for their lives.

The actions of the illegal strikers have resulted in service delivery being partially suspended and several municipal offices have had to close their doors.

The FF Plus will do everything in its power to help keep those municipal workers who do not want to strike safe.

Steps will be taken against the illegal strikers. Thus far, nineteen workers have already been arrested for public violence, and there are additional internal charges which could result in dismissal.

The FF Plus supports the Metro’s decision not to grant an increase of 5,4% due to the Metro’s dire financial position.

If the salary increase were to be granted, the Metro may have to reduce its personnel numbers, which will only lead to even greater unemployment in the Metro.

An increase of 5,4% will have the Metro shelling out an additional R600 million per year.

The party understands the Metro personnel’s frustrations, but taking part in an illegal strike and destroying infrastructure is not the solution.

The FF Plus wants to thank the private security company that has offered to protect the Metro’s infrastructure during this time.
