FF Plus welcomes the announcement of local government election date

The FF Plus welcomes the announcement of the local government elections date. It brings certainty and that is why voters should make use of this forthcoming weekend to ensure that they are registered as voters or to register anew if need be.

The decline of municipalities in South Africa makes this year’s local government election of the utmost importance and voters are encouraged to make sure that they are registered to participate. Too many voters have in the heat of the election decided to vote, only to find that they are not registered, Dr. Pieter Mulder, Leader of the Freedom Front Plus said.

Dr. Mulder says the FF Plus offers various special services in an attempt to assist with this. In establish whether you are registered, you can send your identity number via SMS to 34139. Sms’ cost R2. It will also indicate where you are registered.

Voters can also call a service number to establish whether they are registered and where. The number to dial is 0861-700-700.

The same information can be obtained from the web-page www.isekgeregistreer.co.za  or www.amiregistered.co.za , or from the FF Plus’ web-page www.vfplusorg.za . Click on the link “Is ek geregistreer” / “Am I registered” to see your registration status.

People who have not registered before, or who have had a change of address will be given an opportunity this weekend (9 and 10 April) to register at all voting points which will be open.

If the ward boundaries in which you live have changed, it could also be that you now resort under another ward, and you will have to go and register in the new ward.

Although the two days have been espcifically reserved for registration, you can register at the IEC office of your local municipality during the week. Voters rolls close the moment the election date is gazetted in the Government Gazette. After that voters will no longer be allowed to register.
