The FF Plus welcomes the suspension of the acting Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (Evaton, Sebokeng, Vaal Oewer, Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging), Andile Dyakala, who was found guilty on five charges of serious irregularities.
The charges include unlawfully extending political staff's employment contracts, appointing service providers for short-term insurance, violating the Municipality's supply regulations, granting unauthorised approval for a funeral service for a councillor, and making derogatory statements about the Municipality on social media.
The report that was submitted to the council recommended that Section 32 of the Municipal Financial Management Act must apply, and that the person must be held accountable for all unauthorised, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure.
The council also decided to suspend all contracts entered into since 2020 up until his suspension in 2022 pending an investigation into further possible irregularities.
The FF Plus warned against Dyakala on numerous occasions and requested several times that his Department must be thoroughly investigated.
Emfuleni is already under immense financial pressure and does not even have the finances to provide basic daily services.
The ANC government in Emfuleni lacks the political will to govern the area successfully and only takes action against guilty officials when it has no other choice.
The FF Plus will continue to demand that decisive action must be taken against municipal officials who misappropriate and squander tax money.
