The FF Plus welcomes the ruling by the High Court in Pretoria that confirms the constitutional mandate of the Reserve Bank and the fact that the Court set aside the Public Protector’s (PP) recommendations about the Reserve Bank’s role in her report on the ABSA/CIEX investigation.
Adv Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’s parliamentary spokesperson for finance, says the PP was out of line when she recommended that the Constitution be amended, while she is supposed to protect the Constitution and promote the rights stipulated therein.
“It is comforting that the PP did eventually realise her mistake and that she did not oppose the Reserve Bank’s application to the High Court to set aside her report and recommendations.
“The PP now has the opportunity to turn over a clean slate and execute her mandate without making political assertions, regardless of her own opinion regarding the matter. Her duty is to execute her constitutional mandate and to investigate all cases relating to state capture without bias,” says adv Alberts.
