The Freedom Front Plus welcomes the judgment of the Constitutional Court that the Restitution of Land Rights Amendment Act is illegal and that party supports the principle that a reasonable deal on land rights is established, Mr. Werner Weber, the FF Plus’ spokesperson on land affairs said.
Mr. Weber says the Bill dealt with a very sensitive and emotional issue and it should be approached on a sober and calculated manner with thorough inputs from all the role-players in public participation as the court had recommended.
“The FF Plus criticises the point of departure of the ANC government concerning land reform, i.e. that land rights have to be restored because white people has stolen all land in South Africa. This merely leads to the counter question of where and how black people had obtained the land.
“Did they negotiate with the Khoi-San about the land, did they buy it, or did they just take it? In a proper consultation process these aspects should be discussed thoroughly to once and for all clear up these misconceptions,” Mr. Weber says.
