The FF Plus welcomes the arrest of six police officers who are implicated in alleged corruption at the Musina border crossing.
The illicit importation of cigarettes has reportedly been taking place openly and for quite some time at this border crossing between South Africa and Zimbabwe.
According to Maj. Gen. Samuel Manala, various complaints from the public led to an intensive investigation into the smuggling ring and finally, the arrest of the police members last week. They are scheduled to appear in the Magistrate's Court in Musina today.
The FF Plus hopes that this will serve as an example for criminals and corrupt police members.
Over the past 28 years, the ANC government has cultivated a culture of corruption accompanied by impunity, which has become entrenched in society.
The political will and dedication to eradicate corruption must exist at the highest level of government. Only a change in government in 2024 will achieve that.
