The FF Plus in Limpopo welcomes this morning's arrest of officials and businesspeople by The Hawks on charges of alleged corruption committed at the Mogalakwena Local Municipality (Mokopane/Potgietersrus). Further arrests are expected to follow soon.
The arrest of the municipal officials was carried out under loud applause by municipal workers and members of the community. According to the latest media reports, up to ten people have been arrested thus far.
The FF Plus, in cooperation with other councillors from opposition parties, various community organisations and interest groups, has been fighting to see justice served since 2014 when the Municipality was taken over by a corrupt faction of ANC officials.
The name of the provincial leader of the FF Plus in Limpopo, Marcelle Maritz, was reportedly put on a so-called political murder list along with the names of four other councillors.
It is shocking to witness the decline of the once prosperous Municipality, which has been looted and driven into the ground over the course of the last six years.
The FF Plus will continue to fight for justice and the eradication of corruption and all corrupt officials in the Municipality.
