The FF Plus welcomes the agreement reached between the City of Cape Town and the local taxi industry, which has brought the widespread and violent taxi strike in the Western Cape to an end.
The FF Plus deplores the violence perpetrated during the strike as well as the deaths and injuries of innocent people as a result of it. Severe damage was also caused to property and infrastructure, which benefits no-one.
Although the FF Plus welcomes the end of the strike, the party believes that the agreement should not be a compromise when it comes to enforcing law and order.
No individual or organisation is above the law, and the country’s laws must be enforced without fear or prejudice to those guilty of criminal behaviour.
The FF Plus trusts that the relevant parties will respect and demonstrate understanding for each other’s responsibilities to find a long-term solution for the sake of the people of the Western Cape.
The FF Plus expresses its deepest condolences to the next of kin of those who were injured or killed during the strike.
The FF Plus also expresses its gratitude towards the people of the Western Cape for their cooperation and understanding that action must be taken against reckless road users.
