FF Plus warns Vhembe District Municipality about possible cholera outbreak

In light of the possibility of a cholera outbreak in the Vhembe District Municipality, the FF Plus sent an urgent letter to the Municipal Manager, Ms Tshimangadzo Ndou, urging her to take decisive action to resolve the sewage and water crisis in the area.

This follows the FF Plus learning of a man from Musina, Limpopo, who had been admitted to a Gauteng hospital with cholera symptoms.

In March 2023, the FF Plus lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) as well as a criminal complaint against the District Municipality about, among other things, the ongoing water crisis, which it is failing to address.

The District Municipality is under a legal obligation to supply potable water and ensure a clean and safe environment for its consumers, the residents of the Vhembe District Municipality.

Without water, proper sanitation also becomes a problem, which poses a health risk to residents.

Limpopo’s Health Department has since deployed response teams to the Waterberg, Mopani and Vhembe Districts.

The FF Plus will continue to apply pressure and demand that solutions must be found for the Vhembe District’s water crisis and other service delivery problems.
