“Tomorrow, the FF Plus in Rustenburg will lay a charge with the Hawks regarding allegations of bribery and fraud, which certain DA and EFF councillors are supposedly involved in,” says De Wet Nel, FF Plus councillor in Rustenburg.
Nel says that the FF Plus is in possession of recordings and documents that suggest that councillors accepted bribes and holidays from service providers in exchange for putting pressure on municipal officials to assign contracts and to speed up the payments made to the said service providers.
“These allegations are shocking. Even more so because the councillors are part of the opposition. After the exploitation of the environment and water problems, corruption is surely the greatest threat to our country.
“The FF Plus will continue to fight corruption, whether the guilty party is the opposition or the ANC. The FF Plus plans to hand over all the recordings and documents in its possession to the Hawks tomorrow so that a thorough investigation can be launched,” says councillor Nel.
