During a virtual committee meeting, the FF Plus asked the Gauteng MEC of Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, and the provincial Police Commissioner, Lt.-Gen. Elias Mawela, to allow community policing forums (CPFs) to patrol during the period of lockdown.
Members of the CPF play an important role in the fight against crime and their assistance is needed, particularly after the significant rise in incidences of livestock theft, breaking and entering and robberies at business enterprises in Gauteng.
The police service is currently under a lot of pressure as it must ensure that communities adhere to the lockdown regulations.
If the government refuses to allow neighbourhood watches to do their job, it could lead to an increase in break-ins.
The FF Plus will continue to put pressure on the Gauteng government to allow patrol services to operate and assist in protecting the people of the province.
