FF Plus Mpumalanga welcomes repatriation of Lowveld children to South Africa

The FF Plus is pleased that its actions played a key role in the repatriation of two young children (seven and eleven years old, respectively) from Mozambique. The party engaged with, among others, the relevant government departments to bring about the repatriation.

The FF Plus contacted Mr Gerrit van der Nest and his wife, Marlene, from Wit River in Mpumalanga after they had used social media to ask for assistance to get their two children back into the country.

It had been a long 75 days since the couple had last seen their children when they had departed from Mozambique after a holiday. The children had stayed behind with their grandparents and other family members in Mozambique and were stranded there when the Covid-19 lockdown was implemented.

The FF Plus started negotiating with the Department of Foreign Affairs to open the border between Mozambique and South Africa for a short time so as to allow the repatriation of the Van der Nest children and a few other South Africans.

The children are now safely housed with their mother at a quarantine facility for the prescribed 14-day self-quarantine period.

The FF Plus would like to thank its Member of Parliament responsible for Home Affairs, Mr Jaco Mulder, for everything he has done in this regard.
