FF Plus Mpumalanga requests snap debate on tourism industry in provincial legislature

The FF Plus has requested a snap debate in terms of rule 92 of the provincial legislature rules to discuss the dire situation of the province's tourism industry.

The FF Plus today sent an official letter to the Speaker, Ms Busisiwe Shiba, and the Legislature's Secretary, Mr Linda Mwale, requesting that a debate is scheduled for Thursday, 30 July. The party is still waiting for an answer.

The FF Plus decided to request the debate in the Legislature in an attempt to unite all the political parties and send a message to the President and the Department for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) that the tourism industry in Mpumalanga must be allowed to re-open, in a safe and responsible manner, to save the industry and the local economy from financial ruin.

The local tourism industry has already turned memorandums over to the province’s MEC for Treasury and Tourism, Mr Petrus Ngomane. This was an attempt by the industry to bring its dire situation to the provincial government's attention and to insist that the MEC must immediately take action to save the industry from financial ruin.

And while we are waiting for the Speaker and the Secretary to respond to the request for a snap debate, the industry is sinking deeper and deeper into trouble. Families, employees and businesses are all struggling and before long, the entire community will face economic destruction.
