The FF Plus-Limpopo has lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) and the Green Scorpions about the mismanagement and dilapidated state of the dumping site in Mokopane (Potgietersrus).
The setting of fires is a frequent occurrence at the dumping site due to poor access control. And the fire brigade finds it hard to put out these fires because it is allowed to fill up its fire trucks at the reservoir only once per day. At night, the fires start back up and the town in shrouded in thick smog.
The dumping site does not comply with the minimum requirements of the Waste Management Act and, therefore, poses serious health and safety risks to the residents.
The Mogalakwena Local Municipality (Mokopane/Potgietersrus) was placed under administration by the Limpopo Department of Cooperative Governance, Human settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHTSA) due to financial mismanagement, infighting and maladministration.
The administrators who were appointed for the Municipality have, however, not been able to improve service delivery and residents are confronted with water shortages, poor roads, power outages and many more problems on a daily basis.
Limpopo's once beautiful towns have been turned into garbage heaps of maladministration and corruption – the FF Plus will no longer look on as loyal taxpayers' right to proper service delivery is being trampled.
The objections voiced by taxpayers, who are paying for services that they do not get, are becoming louder and louder.
