Dr. Pieter Mulder, Leader of the FF Plus, will participate in the TV program ‘Robinson’ on KykNet (DSTV Channel 144) on Sunday, 10 July at 19:30, during which he will be talking about coalitions and false propaganda regarding dividing votes in the forthcoming election.
The program forms part of a series of political debates which will be broadcast on KykNet in the run-up to the local government election on 3 August of this year.
The series starts on Sunday with a debate on Tlokwe, or Potchefstroom. It is coincidentally also the hometown of Dr. Mulder where he had previously been a municipal councillor and professor at the University.
Other participants in the program will be the mayor of Tlokwe and ANC member, Kgotso Khumalo, the former mayor, Ms. Annette Combrink, from the DA and the independent candidate, David Xolile Kham.
Dr. Mulder had during the debate which was recorded this morning already, said that the FF Plus is currently the third largest party in the council and was part of the opposition coalition which governed Potchefstroom for a while. The FF Plus also had one of its councilors serving on the mayoral committee at the time.
He said that if the ANC obtains less than 50% in this election in Tlokwe, it will once again be necessary to form a coalition to govern, as a single opposition party, the DA included, will on its own obtain more than 50% of the votes.
Regarding false election tricks, Dr. Mulder said the current propaganda directed against the FF Plus that votes are being divided by the FF Plus is totally untrue and calculatingly misleading.
“In our electoral system votes cannot be divided. Even if the FF Plus candidate for whom you vote does not win, that FF Plus vote is not wasted. Your vote in the ward for the FF Plus candidate is added to the FF Plus’ votes on the party list to determine how many councilors the FF Plus will have.
“In this election, voters will obtain more than one ballot paper. Cast your vote on every ballot paper for the FF Plus,” is the advice that Dr. Mulder gave prospective voters during the program.
